Frequently Asked Questions
Understanding the private pay model and what to expect from therapy can help you make an informed decision about your care.
Julia is not an in-network provider with any insurance companies apart from the Princeton University Student Plan. This means you pay for sessions directly, which allows for the focus of therapy to be entirely on your care without the limitations that insurance companies can place on treatment. After each session, you will be provided with a superbill for submission to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement.
Private pay means that I do not bill insurance companies directly for your sessions. Instead, you pay for each session at the time of service. This model gives us greater flexibility in how we work together. Without insurance requirements dictating the number of sessions, the type of treatment, or the length of our work, I can tailor therapy entirely to your needs and goals.
A superbill is a detailed receipt that includes the information your insurance company needs to process an out-of-network claim. After each session, I provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement. I recommend contacting your insurance company to ask about your out-of-network mental health benefits before your first session.
Call the member services number on the back of your insurance card and ask the following questions:
- Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
- What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much of it have I met?
- What percentage of the session fee will be reimbursed after I meet my deductible?
- Is there a limit on the number of sessions covered per year?
- How do I submit a superbill for reimbursement?
When therapists work with insurance companies, they are often required to provide a diagnosis, limit the number of sessions, and follow treatment protocols that may not fit every client. By working on a private pay basis, I can protect your privacy, offer longer or more frequent sessions when needed, and focus our work on what matters most to you rather than what an insurance company approves.
Your initial session is a 60-minute assessment where we get to know each other. I will ask about what brought you to therapy, your history, your strengths, and what you are hoping to achieve. This is also your opportunity for you to ask questions and determine if we are a good fit to work together. We will collaboratively set goals for our time together, and you will leave with a clearer sense of next steps.
Yes. I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation so we can discuss your needs and determine if we are a good fit to work together. This is a brief conversation where you can ask questions and get a sense of my approach. Schedule your free consultation.
