Ethical College Exploration
A different approach to the college admissions process—one that puts your family's values and your child's wellbeing first.
The Problem with Conventional College Admissions
The college admissions process has become something it was never meant to be. What should be an exciting period of self-discovery for young people has turned into a pressure-filled competition that damages families and harms students' mental health. Parents feel compelled to start planning years in advance, students define their worth by acceptance letters, and the entire family system absorbs a level of anxiety that can strain relationships and undermine wellbeing.
I have seen the toll this takes firsthand. Adolescents presenting with panic attacks during application season. Parents and teenagers who can barely speak to each other without an argument about college. Families spending enormous amounts of money on consultants who promise prestige but deliver pressure. This is not how it has to be.
An Ethical Approach
My approach to college exploration is fundamentally different. I am not a traditional college counselor, however, I have extensive experience in admissions in an ivy league environment and so I have a deep understanding of the application and acceptance process. I am not in the business of gaming admissions systems or chasing rankings. Instead, I bring my training in DBT, family systems therapy, and adolescent development to help families navigate this transition with integrity and connection.
The goal is not to get your child into the "best" school according to some external ranking. The goal is to help your child understand themselves well enough to find a school where they will genuinely thrive, and to guide your family through the process in a way that strengthens rather than fractures your relationships.
How It Works
We begin with an initial family consultation where I learn about your family's values, concerns, and hopes for this next chapter. From there, the work unfolds in phases:
- Self-exploration: I work directly with your child to identify their values, interests, learning style, and what kind of environment helps them grow. This is therapeutic work, not test prep.
- School research: Together, we build a list of schools based on genuine fit rather than prestige or peer pressure. I help families ask the right questions and look beyond marketing materials.
- Application support: I provide guidance through the application process with an emphasis on authenticity. Your child's voice and story matter more than any formula.
- Family navigation: Throughout the process, I help parents and students communicate effectively, manage disagreements, and keep the relationship at the center.
Is This Right for Your Family?
This service is designed for families who want to approach the college process differently. You might be a good fit if you are concerned about your child's mental health during the admissions process, if you want to reduce the stress and conflict that college planning has introduced into your household, or if you value authenticity and personal growth over prestige and competition.
I work with families across the Main Line, Princeton, and via telehealth throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
What This Is Not
To be clear, this is not SAT or ACT prep, not essay ghostwriting, and not a guarantee of admission to any particular school. This is therapy-informed guidance that treats the college process as what it really is: a major family transition and milestone that deserves thoughtful, ethical support.
What to Expect
We start with a consultation to understand where your family is in the process and what kind of support would be most helpful. Sessions can include your child individually, the whole family, or parents alone, depending on what is needed at each stage.
